Congratulations Firehorse (F)
We were just taking a look through the annals of history the other day and that brought back a few memories. The records are quite thorough and illustrate the unfolding of arena activity since its inception (which in itself was a minor miracle) to where it is today. When you first sent out your email inviting trivia groups to participate in your idea of a world trivia competition you received a tremendous response and the fact of arena surviving for 7 years is testimony to your commitment. Nice Job!
There have been many changes in the arena over the past 7 years. In the first year all teams played each other, (21 groups) and as Nasty said, that was found to be a tad long, so divisions were created. Just for interests sake here is a link to the champ scores in 2004.
http://www.triviaarena.com/xoops/modu ... aycontent/index.php?id=29 At that time Fire was using a TATS bot so only the first to correctly answer the question earned a single point?no other points could be earned. In 2005 A division continued with TATS and Divisions B, C and D used Super Trivia and finally all divisions used Super Trivia so that additional points could be scored. I think the first world match was held in 2005 and sexes matches were added in 2006.
I also remember when umpires manually stopped the bot at question 75, clocked out 5 minutes and then resumed with question 76. It is an understatement to say we used to have a few interesting conversations during the breaks. Especially if one of the questions went too far, and all players were poised, waiting to be the first in with the correct answer. This one sticks out in my mind as creating the most action:
Question 76: What throws 250,000 tons of pollen into the air? (((Trivia resumed))) Answer: Ragweed plant--with a rush of eight correct answers.
Congratulations again Firehorse!!! :dance2: It?s been no mean feat. I am sure everyone has interesting experiences to share, so enough from me.
Cheers,
Redd
